San Antonio Getaway

Last week, Scott and I enjoyed a wonderful 4-day getaway to San Antonio, Texas. One of the insurance companies Scott works with sponsored a trip for their agents (and spouses), so lucky me, I got to be spoiled for 4 blissful days! While we were gone, my parents watched the kids. It was so wonderful for the kids to get to spend a little extra time with Grandma and Grandpa and it was great for me to know that the kids were well-taken care of. On the day we arrived in San Antonio, we checked in to our hotel, which was downtown on the river walk. After checking in we walked to the Alamo and learned a little about that historical site. But it was so hot (98 degrees with about 90% humidity!), so we didn't stick around too long.
The second day we were there, Scott had meetings all day, but the company arranged a shopping trip for the spouses. We went to quite an upscale shopping area (I didn't purchase anything from Neiman Marcus...yikes!), but it was such a treat to be able to spend a whole day by myself with no time pressure or list of things to do or get. On the 3rd day, we did a Texas Hill Country tour. As part of the tour, we made several stops and got to see a bit of the Texas country-side. The first stop we made was to Lyndon B. Johnson's home/ranch.

This is LBJ's house.

The second stop we made was to a winery. We enjoyed lunch under the shade of the live oak trees, which are everywhere. Here, Rena, Scott's co-worker, looks like she is giving Scott some "motherly" advice! We had a lot of fun hanging out with Rena and her husband, Jim.

At the winery, we were able to see the wine being bottled. It was interesting to learn a little about the whole wine-making process.

Another stop we made on our tour was to Luckenbach, a tourist trap made famous by a country song by Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings... I could've skipped that portion of our trip!

On the evening of our 3rd day in San Antonio, we we went to really fun dinner at the Don Strange Ranch, a Texas-style banquet facility. All the agents had to wear a lovely bright blue cowboy shirt, and the spouses were supposed to wear western attire.

After dinner, we got to go on a hot air balloon ride. The balloon was tethered down, so we just went to the tops of the trees, and then came back down again, but it was still fun!

We made it!

On our last day, Scott and I spent the morning walking around the river walk. There are so many great restaurants!

We ate an early lunch at a fantastic restaurant called Boudros.

One of the things they are famous for is their table-side guacamole. It was really good! Scott looked the recipe up (they have it posted online because so many people ask for it)
and made it for our friends for our Memorial Day get together!

After one more relaxing meal together, we headed to the airport to fly back to California. What a great trip!
