God's Royalty

Last week, our Wednesday Explorer group had planned to go to the zoo to enhance the animal unit we're in the midst of doing, but since rain was predicted we went to plan B. Plan B turned out to be a marvelous morning of activities where the kids learned what it meant to be a prince or princess -- a child of the true King. Laurienne, the mom who organized all these special activities, had planned everything to celebrate her daughter's 5th birthday, but since none of the Explorer kids were able to attend her party, she used all the supplies she had from the party to lead our morning with the kids. The kids started the morning by decorating crowns with jewels -- every prince or princess needs a crown, right?
Work in progress...

Calvin is diligently working on his pattern -- green, green, blue...

Storytime -- Laurienne shared a couple of great books with the kids and talked with them about how a child of God should act and talk.
Here is one of the books she read to the kids. She also brought several books that she'd been collecting over the years for her daughter, so I left with a list of wonderful book ideas.
Each child got to go home with a little box filled with meaningful treasures.

One treasure the kids got was a little battery-operated light to remind the kids to let their lights shine. They also went home with a little globe bouncy ball to remind them that God holds the whole world in His hands, some extra jewels in a draw-string bag to remind them that God considers character traits like kindness, love, joy, patience, etc... to be precious jewels. What great reminders -- I pray these nuggets of truth will took root in their hearts!
